16x Snack Cubes (Wood Cubes)

SETUP

If this is your first time playing, take the Spook Tokens and mark one side of each. Mark two to indicate that they are Skeletons, two to indicate that they are Gargoyles, two to indicate that they are Ghouls, and two to indicate that they are Bats.

Place the Snack Cubes into the empty tin. Place the Spook Tokens face-down near the play area. Shuffle the Tile Cards into a deck and place it face-down near the play area.

Each player takes a Dog Card (either chosen or distributed at random) and the Dog Token matching their card’s portrait’s color. Any unused Dog Cards and Dog Tokens are set aside, not to be used in the game.

Whichever player the group deems the spookiest draws the top Tile Card and places it in the middle of the play area. They then draw a Snack Cube from the tin at random and place it on the Jack-O-Lantern space. If there is a Gravestone space, they place a randomly chosen Spook Token on it, turning it face-up. Finally, they place their Dog Token on a space of the Tile Card that is not adjacent to the Jack-O-Lantern space, nor upon a Gravestone space. (Diagonals are not adjacent.)

Players then repeat the process in a clockwise manner, making sure that at least two squares on their Tile Cards line up with the already placed Tile Cards so as to form a continuous game board, referred to from here on in as the Graveyard. Tiles may be rotated as the players see fit.

GAMEPLAY

The spookiest player goes first, with turns continuing in a clockwise manner.

If the Tile Card deck is not exhausted, the player draws a Tile Card and adds it to the Graveyard, making sure that at least two squares line up with Tile Cards already placed in the Graveyard, adding randomly chosen Spook Tokens and Snack Cubes as indicated by Gravestones and Jack-O-Lanterns.

The player rolls both dice. They use one to perform a Dog Action, and the other to perform a Spook Action, in any order.

Special Note: While Gravestones and Jack-O-Lanterns have Spooks and Snacks placed on them when they first appear, they are considered empty spaces when there are no Tokens or Cubes upon them.

DOG ACTION

Move your Dog Token the exact amount of spaces shown on the selected die. You may not move diagonally. You may move through other Dog and/or Spook Tokens. You may move over the same space more than once. If you end the action on a space with another Dog Token you may perform a Wrestle. If you end your action on a space with a Spook Token you may perform an Attack. If you end your action on a space with a Snack Cube, collect it and place it on your Dog Card. If you end your action in an empty space you may perform a Bork.

SPOOK ACTION

Move any Spook Token the exact amount of spaces shown on the selected die. You may not move it diagonally, excepting Bats, who may. You may move it through other Spook and/or Dog Tokens. You may move it over the same space more than once. If the Spook Token ends its movement on a space with a Dog Token, the dog does a Concern. If any dogs remains in the space, then perform the Haunt listed in the respective entry of the Spook Tome at the end of these rules.

SPECIAL ACTIONS

Wrestle- Select one dog in the same space as you. You both roll one die. Whoever rolls highest takes one snack cube from the other player at random. Ties have no effect. If no other dogs in the space have any snack cubes, then you may not do a Wrestle.

Attack- Roll one die. On the result of at least 5, remove the Spook Token from the Graveyard and place it on your Dog Card. If the Spook was carrying any Snack Cubes, place them on your Dog Card as well.

Bork- Move any Spook or Dog token within three spaces to an adjacent space. If a Spook lands on a Dog, perform their Haunt. If a Dog lands on a Spook, they may choose to attack. After, roll one die. On the result of three or lower, randomly select one of the Snack Cubes on your Dog Card and remove it from the game. If you have no Snack Cubes, you may still Bork.

Concern- Roll one die. On the result of a 6, move your Dog Token to an adjacent empty space if one is available.

ENDGAME

The game may not end until all 16 Tile Cards have been placed into the Graveyard. The game ends immediately once all the Snack Cubes have been removed from the Graveyard OR there are no more Spooks in the Graveyard.

Players then tally their points. Three points for any Spook Tokens on their Dog Card, two points for any Snack Cubes of their color on their Dog Card, and one point for any other Snack Cube on their Dog Card. The player with the highest amount of points wins. If there is a tie, the tied players become friends. It’s just a game, folks.

SPOOK TOME

Skeletons- Your regular spooky boney dude. Enjoys playing the trumpet. HAUNT: Remove one Snack Cube at random from all dogs in this space and place it on this Spook Token. A Skeleton may carry up to three Snack Cubes. If a Skeleton is already carrying three snack cubes, they may not Haunt.

Gargoyles- A tough as nails lady with a heart of stone. Enjoys therapeutic massages. HAUNT: All Dogs in this space may not perform a Dog Action their next turn. Rather, they perform two Spook Actions.

Ghouls- Not alive, not dead, caught somewhere in between. Surprisingly decent tennis players. HAUNT: Remove a Snack Cube at random from the game from all dogs in this space.

Bats- Our furry flying friends. Enjoy tummy rubs. HAUNT: Remove a Snack Cube at random from any dog in this space and place it on this Spook Token. Bats may only carry one Snack Cube at a time. If a Bat already has a Snack Cube, switch it out for a random one from the Haunted Dog.
